Out of all the above, deep ‘positive nutrition’ is often the most essential missing piece of the puzzle simply because NO DEEP HEALING can take place without optimal nutrition to feed connective tissues, muscles, nerves, blood vessels and skin recovering from trauma and under re-construction.
In the case of the recently Post Natal client, when we start to consider the potential for ‘tissue trauma’ during birthing especially when the client has birthed via C-Section, has Rectus Diastasis, experienced tears and assisted birthing using tools such as Ventous and Episiotomy, we then begin to see ‘nutrition for healing’ as utterly fundamental to a recovery programme.

And in more general terms, in the life cycle of women, when we are trying to address issues such as chronic pelvic dysfunction leading to incontinence and prolapse and healing post-operatively from gynaecological interventions the sentiments are the same – NUTRITION IS HUGELY IMPORTANT!
The generally accepted healing cycle is shown below and for many, it comes as quite a shock that the completion of this cycle can take as long as 360 days! And in the case of Collagen (the main tissue type of the abdominal midline /Rectus Diastasis) some experts in this field are proposing that the healing phase may take as long as 500 days! So technically, in the post birth period, the following year is a crucial period where nutrition, hydration and self-care should take the upmost priority. In short, this isn’t the time to be living on sweet tea and digestive biscuits 😉  – PS sugar is one of the biggest inflammatory ingredients in our modern diet.

Inflammation is part of the natural order of healing and indeed is the starting point of the process but chronic (ongoing) inflammation created by poor nutritional, environmental and lifestyle choices is bad news for your overall health and is seen as the precursor to all of the major diseases, especially those associated with aging and of course is ANTI-HEALING.

Ingredients & Why

Ginger – Ginger is one of the most healing, anti-inflammatory foods one can consume – Read more here. 
Coconut Oil & Milk –The most misunderstood saturated fat – here’s a great video and resource that will explain all the amazing benefits and cut though the myth and misconception.
Carrotts – High in the powerful anti-oxidants known as carotenoids which are a Vitamin A precursor (forming Vit A once in the body). Vitamin A is naturally anti-viral and anti-carcinogenic. One of the biggies when healing Diastasis also!
Coriander – Aids digestion, gut health and peristalsis. Rich in iron, magnesium, potassium and calcium and a good source of Vitamins A, B, C and K. Anti-oxidant therefore, anti-inflammatory/anti-cancer. Consuming coriander leaf infusions has been shown to aid the removal of heavy metals as mercury, aluminum and lead from the body and aid liver function. Coriander seeds also support optimal secretion of hormones and promote hormonal balance.
Onions – Amongst a host of ‘positive nutrition’ qualities, Onions are a great source of the antioxidant quercetin, which has been found to have anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory functions.
Garlic – Garlic cloves have amazingly high levels of anti-inflammatory vitamins (especially Vit C) and minerals.

Just 100 g of Garlic provides (in % of recommended daily allowance) :

95% of Vitamin B-6 (pyridoxine)
52% of Vitamin C
33% of Copper
21% of Iron
18% of Calcium
26% Selenium
73% of Manganese

Sweat/caramelize all the ingredients apart from the coconut milk in a pan with a teaspoon of coconut oil until all are soft. Add either water or stock. Leave to cool before adding to a blender and blending til totally smooth. Return to the saucepan and add the coconut milk and season to taste. Beyond delish….soothing and healing.
